There’s no better time to familiarize yourself with the “biggest rules overhaul since 1984.”
Only moments have passed since the USGA pressed the “post” button, thus distributing the new rules of golf. The result of years of research conducted by the biggest governing bodies in golf, the new rules aim to make life easier for recreational golfers–and faster too.
There’s a lot to go over here, so it’s a blessing that we’re getting them nearly nine months before they take effect Jan. 1, 2019–and not before. What do you think? Is there anything particularly troubling herein or have the governing bodies demonstrated they are truly in touch with the needs of the “modern” golfers?
And what about implementation? It seems to me that the USGA and others are giving players ample time to deal with issues. But will they?
I’m not going out on a limb here if I predict the game will experience lots of conflict, whether in tournament play or during a casual weekend afternoon. Adjustments will take time.
